The RECESS RADIO Interview - Vision Vocal
1. How did you name your band?
It’s actually pretty funny. So we started recording music in 2013 (eighth grade) with no plans of releasing it, like it was just something we loved to do and eventually it became the only thing we did. This continued consistently until 2016 to the point where we had created 3 full albums, the most recent being called “Marijuana Recess” (there was a lot of smoking weed involved). With time we eventually showed close friends and siblings and got enough people telling us to release a song that we finally did. That first song was called “Boomerang” and we needed a band name so we dropped the “Marijuana” and just went with “Recess” and sometimes “Recess Radio.”
2. Who's in the group and what's their role?
Lake Blake(@blakethomasfoster) - Vocals, production, engineering and artwork.
Skyeboi(@skyeboiiii) - Vocals and production.
Marty(@martin__terry) - Production, vocals and artwork.
FERGO!(@ferguson_sean) - Vocals and bongos.

Group Insta - @thoserecesskids
3. How did you all meet?
We’ve all been in the same school since elementary so it was definitely a friendship way before music and once the music began it was natural, ya know? It’s easier to be vulnerable around your closest friends and vulnerability is definitely something that comes with making music.
4. Who inspired you guys to make music?
Hit Boy/HS87
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Kanye West
Mac Miller
The Dirty Heads (their old stuff)
Chance the Rapper
Tyler the Creator/Odd Future
A Tribe Called Quest
Eminem
Flatbush Zombies
5. What artists do you listen to?
XXXTENTACION
Billie Eilish
Lana Del Rey
Smino
The Weeknd
Frank Ocean
Chance the Rapper
System of a Down
Fleetwood Mac
6. Where do you see yourself being in the next five years? What are some goals you have?
Five years from now we want Recess to change what people think of music and entertainment in the aspect of how it has to sound or how it has to be presented. I feel like there’s a lot of inauthenticity in music today and it doesn’t have to be that way.
7. Coolest experience so far being in a band?
Traveling. The idea of just making music together all the time seemed like the coolest thing until we played a show at the University of Vermont. That experience changed the way all of us saw performing and how far it could really go. And it was also a ton of fun because at the end of the day your with your friends.
8. When will new music be released?
People can expect new music within the next month. We plan on releasing around 5 singles displaying different styles of the group and following those with a project that will feature one or two very funny skits.
9. Which artists would you like to work with in the future?
There’s this super underground dude named Charles Chino in the group Unlucky13 who we've all been bumping lately. Other than him pretty much anyone on the list of people we listen to or the people were inspired by.
10. Anything else to know about the group?
There’s is no plan B and we did that on purpose. You must give everything to succeed or the only person you can blame is yourself. This will work or we will die trying. That being said, we will always have fun and it will always be genuine. Pure, not always pretty.
