The Monte Chambers Interview

Get to know the singer, rapper, and songwriter from Chicago, IL. , Monte Chambers.

Q: When did you first get into music?

A: Music has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember but I started making my own music about 3 years ago.

Q: Did your family play music around you growing up? What was the music scene like in your area?

A: It was more of my family influencing what I listened to when I was growing up. There wasn't really much of a music scene around me coming up.

Q: Who are some artists you grew up listening to? Do you still listen to their stuff now?

A: I grew up listening to Usher, Chris Brown, Omarion, Lil Wayne, and Drake, and I still listen to all them now.

Q:What was the process like when recording your first song?

A: I would go through a bunch of YouTube beats and find one that either made me feel something or just sounded so crazy that I had to hop on it. Lyrics wise I go line by line, no writing, just finding melodies and putting words to them.

Q: Are you currently in school or working?

A: I just graduated high school but I'm not working yet. This next year I'll be going to a community college near me and still doing music.

Q: Who are some other artists you work with?

A: Right now the only artist I work with consistently is McPaul, but I've been making music with my cousin and we got some good music coming.

Q: Who are some Chicago artists you hope to work with in the future?

A: Lil Durk, Chance The Rapper, Kanye West, and G Herbo.

Q: In your opinion, what is the best album of all time? Why?

A: Travis Scott's "Rodeo" because I feel like that was just an album in its own universe with the way rap started to change after he released it. It may not be THE best of all time but it's my favorite of all time.

Q: If you could have any producer produce your album, who would you pick?

A: Travis Scott

Q: When you make your music, do you produce everything that you make or do you work with other producers as well?

A: I'm always involved in production but I also work with my best friend and my cousin that's pretty much it though. I find it a lot easier to work around people I'm comfortable with.

Q: Where do you hope to be in the next few years?

A: In a few years I see me as an artist that's well known, I know I have what it takes to pop, I just need to put in the work.

Q: Do you plan on staying in Chicago to pursue your career?

A: No, after my second year of college I'll most likely be heading to Dallas, Texas to continue because my cousin who produces and raps lives down there too, along with my other side of my family. They've always been really supportive and I feel like I need that positive environment around me if I want to succeed.

Q: Whats been the hardest thing about pursuing a music career?

A: Sometimes finding the motivation to do it, like I love making music don't get me wrong but when you're working towards something and you aren't always getting the results you expect, it gets discouraging.

Q: What advice would you give to other young kids who want to start a music career?

A: I'd just tell them if it's something that they wanna do then chase it but be mindful of what you have to do to become who you want to be. It's not an easy path to follow.
